Floyd D. Simpson became Corpus Christi’s 22nd Chief of Police on March 12, 2012, following a distinguished career with the Dallas Police Department where he retired at the rank of Assistant Chief. 

Chief Simpson brings with him extensive management experience, where as Assistant Chief in Dallas he oversaw both the Patrol and Administration Bureaus during his 25 year tenure.   Among his most significant accomplishments was the implementation of numerous innovative crime fighting strategies that helped contribute to a nearly ten percent decrease in overall crime during eight consecutive years of crime reduction in the city of Dallas. While in charge of the Administration Bureau, Chief Simpson successfully managed an 83 million dollar budget and was responsible for the entire human relations function for the department, including recruiting, hiring, and training.  In addition, Chief Simpson directed Public Safety Operations for Super Bowl XLV, the 2010 NBA All-Star Game, the Cotton Bowl, and Texas-Oklahoma football games from 2001 through 2009.  

Chief Simpson possesses a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Illinois University and earned his Masters Degree in Business Administration from Amber University.  He is a graduate of the Police Executive Research Forum Senior Management Institute, the FBI National Academy, and the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas. Chief Simpson has been married for 24 years and is the proud father of four children. An avid runner, Chief Simpson has completed four marathons, and also enjoys riding his motorcycle during his few spare moments away from work. 

Foremost among Chief Simpson’s goals is to reduce crime by improving the Department’s Comp Stat program.  A fervent believer in the “broken windows” theory of community policing, Chief Simpson expects supervisors to utilize daily crime reports to identify where crime trends are occurring, rapidly deploy officers to these areas, develop effective tactics to eliminate crime problems, and then conduct unrelenting follow-up to ensure the problems have been resolved.  By addressing minor crimes and improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods, Chief Simpson believes the Department can significantly reduce the crime rate in all of Corpus Christi. 

Creating a new organizational structure that ensures that all facets of the department are given adequate attention, and cultivating a professional, highly trained command staff are also among his top goals.  Ultimately, Chief Simpson strives to make the Corpus Christi Police Department one of the best police departments in the country, while accomplishing our mission of reducing crime, reducing the fear of crime, and enhancing public safety.
