The City Attorney's Office:


>> Processes claims filed against the City


>> Is the legal advisor to the City Council, City Manager and staff, and official boards and commissions


>> Prosecutes all municipal court cases. Municipal Court is responsible for court procedures, fines, traffic tickets, and other offenses.

The City Attorney is appointed by the City Manager and serves as the chief legal officer and advisor for the City of Corpus Christi.

 


 

The City Attorney's Office provides all legal services for the City, including ongoing advice to city officials, preparation and review of legal documents, prosecution of persons accused of violating city ordinances, and representation of the City and city officials in lawsuits. When warranted, the City Attorney may contract with outside legal counsel when there are potential conflicts of interest and for specialized expertise and services. The City Attorney manages a law office with 16 attorneys and seven support personnel.
