Healthy Texas Babies

Corpus Christi - Nueces County
Public Health District

P.R.I.D.E.

Nueces County
Combating Diabetes in Women
for a Healthier Life Plan

PRECONCEPTION

Preconception health is a woman’s health before she becomes pregnant. It means having the knowledge of how health conditions and risk factors could affect a woman or her unborn baby if she becomes pregnant.

INTERCONCEPTION

Interconception is the time between the end of one pregnancy and the beginning of the next one. The goal of interconception care is to take steps to improve the outcome for the next pregnancy.

DIABETES SCREENING

A simple finger stick will determine if your blood sugar levels are out of the target range and need further medical treatment.

EDUCATION/AWARENESS

Discuss the importance of taking multi-vitamins containing folic acid before & during pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects. Identifying diabetes to optimize pregnancy outcomes.

Women of childbearing age play an essential part in our community as parents and caretakers. Not only is the health of these women linked to the health of their babies, it has a direct impact on the health of their families.

Our goal is to reduce infant mortality by improving the health of these valuable women.

Even If You’re Not Planning
To Have a Baby Yet

Approximately half of all pregnancies are not planned. That is the reason you should get enough folic acid every day if there’s ANY chance you could get pregnant. By the time you know you’re pregnant , your baby’s brain and spine are already formed.

Other Benefits of Folic Acid

Makes normal red blood cells
Prevents heart disease, cancers and strokes.
